Competency-based training (CBET)

Competency-based training, done properly

Competency-based programmes are assessed differently: evidence and observation instead of a single exam mark. Soma360 is built for how TVET institutions assess, from units of competency and learning outcomes to workplace assessment and Competent / Not Yet Competent results.

Assessment as CBET intends

Each learning outcome is assessed against criteria, not just averaged into a mark.

Evidence in one place

Photos, documents and assessor notes are attached to each student's record.

Ready for verification

Assessments are verified and progress is visible per student and class.

Units of competency and learning outcomes

Set up competency units with their learning outcomes and performance criteria, and link them to the classes that take them.

  • Competency units and learning outcomes
  • Practical checklists with assessment criteria
  • Competent / Not Yet Competent grading

Assessors and assessments

Allocate qualified assessors to students and units. Assessors record each assessment against the checklist and attach evidence.

  • A dedicated assessor role with access only to their assessments
  • Assessment records per student and outcome
  • Evidence uploads such as photos, documents and portfolios
  • Verification of assessments before results are final

Progress tracking

See how far each student and class has progressed through their units and outcomes, and who is not yet competent in what.
